2022–“The sea changes its appearance from moment to moment, inspiring the viewers various stories and imaginations. The process of waterdrops from the sky becoming the sea and reaching me, subtle memories from the seaside, and myths and stories of the sea overlap.”
“바다는 시시각각 모습을 달리하며 다양한 이야기와 상상을 떠올리게 한다.
하늘의 물방울이 바다가 되어 나에게 닿기까지의 과정, 바닷가에서의 사사로운 추억,
바다에 얽힌 신화와 이야기가 중첩된다.”Water symbolizes the movement of the world, the flow of circulation. It takes on the most changeable forms. Water, which symbolizes the changing world, is both an object and the landscape itself. To me, the sea is a massive assembly of water and a manifestation of the natural cycle. The sea is a subject for painterly representation to express the visual and tactile textures of water.
The sea within my artwork could indeed represent the sea of Jeju Island, but it also embodies the universal landscape of the sea as the origin of water. It's a seascape created by combining photos taken firsthand from various seas I've traveled and images found on the internet. In the process of amalgamating multiple sea photos, the specific details of each location are lost. While staging a landscape that could exist somewhere, it does not refer to any actual place. The seascape is nowhere in particular, yet it can be anywhere—a sea that transcends specific geographical boundaries.
물은 순환이라는 세계의 움직임을 상징한다. 그것은 가장 변화무쌍한 형태를 지녔다. 물은 변화하는 세계를 상징하는 사물이자 풍경 그 자체이다. 나에게 바다는 물의 거대한 집합체이자 자연 순환을 드러내는 제재이다. 바다는 물의 시각적·촉각적 질감을 표현하기 위해 선택한 회화적 재현의 풍경이다.
작품 속 바다는 제주도의 바다일 수도 있지만, 물의 근원으로서의 바다라는 보편적인 풍경이기도 하다. 그것은 여러 바다를 여행하며 직접 찍은 사진과 인터넷에서 검색한 이미지를 조합하여 만들어낸 풍경이다. 다수의 바다 사진을 조합하는 과정에서 그곳의 정보는 상실된다. 어딘가에 존재할 법한 풍경을 연출하였지만, 이는 실제 장소를 지칭하지 않는다. 임의의 바다는 아무 곳도 아니지만 동시에 어느 곳이든 될 수 있는 바다이다.
